Valentine's Day 2013

I'm all about holidays and celebrations. We all have things that we are good at, and one thing that I really enjoy is making holidays and everyday milestones exciting and memorable. I am big on traditions and family celebrations! So of course Valentine's Day is celebrated like crazy over here!

 

All the kiddos have these cute bags that hang on their chair. The night before Valentine's Day we stuck in cards and special treats. That morning they opened their treats and we all enjoyed a special breakfast.

They also got cute little hats to wear, although Ro refused to wear hers for the picture!

 The girls enjoyed making hearts for their Grandma & Grandpa Davis. When we went to see them a few days after Valentine's Day Finley was excited to give hers to Grandma and Rowynn was very insistent that she give hers to Grandpa. It was so cute!

And of course we had to paint our nails festive for the special day!

Kyle came home with balloons and flowers for the girls and candy for me. Sweet boy!!!

The girls decorated the table all by themselves and we enjoyed steak, salad, and mac-n-cheese (all cooked by Kyle) for our special dinner. Funny how things change when you have kids. No more going out on Valentine's Day....it is now a family holiday! 

For dessert we enjoyed fondue. The girls loved dipping strawberries, marshmallows, and bananas in chocolate. Mommy & Daddy enjoyed it too!

Valentine's Day 2013

More Valentine Fun!

 

Since the girls don't go to pre-school I decided that we would make some special Valentine treats for Finley to take to dance class and Awanas, and some to pass out to some of their little friends.

 

I found these adorable printables on this blog. Super easy to make. We passed these and the bear treats out to her dance friends and the bear treats to her Awana buddies! 

 

I picked up these cute wands in the party section of Wal-Mart and had them ready to pass out to some sweet girls that came to play on Wednesday.

My friend Laurie mentioned on her blog that she made chocolate play-dough for her preschool class and I just knew that my girls would love that! I've made play-dough before but never chocolate play-dough. It smelled AMAZING! The girls loved putting little "chocolates" in empty candy heart boxes and in their cupcake tins. Finley grabbed a popsicle stick and enjoyed making lollipops.

We also made and decorated heart-shaped cookies. The decorating process looked a little like this, "spread the frosting, lick the spoon." And repeat.

We also made some treats to give James, Remi, and T. Chocolate dipped marshmallows and strawberries with sprinkles!

 

 

The girls loved making little cards for their friends. Rowynn insisted on adding frogs to her cards! So RoRo!

 

Rainy Day Fun

One day last week it rained all morning. So of course we had to make our own rainy day craft.

 

First we talked about weather and moved our clothespins on our weather chart.

 

I had the girls mix black and white paint to make gray...fun little lesson on mixing two colors to make a new one! Then they dipped cotton balls (clouds) into the gray paint and glued them to the top of a piece of construction paper. Then, using, q-tips dipped in blue paint, we made rain drops. Then they painted paper plates and cut them to look like umbrellas. Afterwards we taped pipe cleaners for the handle and our rainy day scene was complete!

Valentine Fun

The girls have loved writing letters to all their friends and each other. Every day they tell my who their cards are for. They make them and stick them in the mail boxes and get a big kick out of it.

 

 

 

 I got this little heart garland kit at Target (love their dollar section) and the girls decorated it and we hung it above their little kitchen in the playroom.

We did "marble painting" the other day. We've done this before and it's always fun. Just put paper in the bottom of a pan or box, squirt some paint in there and drop a few marbles in and let them roll the pan around, spreading the paint to make fun patterns.

 

After we added some glitter and when the paint was dry we cut hearts out of it.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Heart cookie cutters, paint, and paper. We've done this every year for the past couple of years. I love it, it's super easy and makes beautiful Valentine décor.

 

 

 I saw this on Inner Child Fun. Scratch hearts! I had some scratch art paper left over from Finley's birthday party so I just cut them into heart shapes and gave the girls toothpicks and let them scratch designs. Then we taped them to doilies hearts.

I saw this on The Macs blog and knew my girls would love it. I put a hollow heart shape on top of contact paper (sticky side up) and let them put little hearts in the middle and then they sprinkled pink glitter to add some sparkle! We wrote bible verses about love and then put another sheet of contact paper on top. Fun little window décor!

Finley has recently learned the months of the year and that her birthday is on June 5th and that Valentine's Day is on February 14th. She asks me every day two questions. 1. Is today June 5th? 2. Is it Valentine's Day? I've showed her on her calendar when Valentine's Day is and we've counted the days in between. The other day she wanted to write down how many days until the big day. So I wrote 4 and 5 and she wanted to write the rest (I helped on 12). She was so proud of herself and likes crossing off the days.

Our verse about love. I had her find the word "love" and circle it and then we talked about who the "He" was.

 

I've been teaching Rowynn her numbers and how to count and we did this little entry in her journal the other day. We practiced counting the hearts and then I wrote the numbers and had her circle them. She decided that she would rather color them or mark them out than circle them. Whatever works!

This is another entry. She knows the letter R and on this day I added in F and M. I just wrote them and had her find them. She did great!
